A weekend of family and friends

President's Day weekend was the first chance we've had to go to Monroe for quite a while. In fact, we haven't been down there since Christams break. It was a good time to go visit my family (and Annie's family even though they have all seen Sophie alot - they come up often). And most exciting for us was the chance to see Kyle and Jordon and their two kids, Isaac and their new baby girl Attison.

Over the break, Sophia had her first experience with bubbles at Grandpa and Grandma Hunt's house. At first she seemed a little weirded out and unimpressed at best with the bubbles, but she decided she likes them after Greg kept blowing them at her.

She also got some time to play with her older cousin, Brynlie. The two little girls had a fun time trying to figure each other out - laughing, crying and staring in amazement at each other.

Annie and I had dinner Saturday night with Kyle and Jordon and Layne and Rachelle at the Sagebrush Grill in Monroe. That restaurant makes really good stuff, it's the second time I've had it and I dig it. After dinner, we went to Jordon's parent's house to relax and hang out together. We all have kids now who are within a month of each other in age. Layne and Rachelle's little boy is definitely the biggest of the three, even though Sophia is the oldest.

We had a great time hanging out with family and our friends we don't see as often as we'd like. We'll definitely try to make a point to not wait so long in between visits in the future.

Happy Valentine's Day

Today I got to spend the whole day at home with my little valentine. Annie and I celebrated the date by getting takeout the night before to beat the rush. I got her the final season of The Gilmore Girls because she has been talking about it ever since I didn't pick it up for her for Christmas.
She got me a lot of Doritos and other candy because I always have to have Doritos and because it was the only thing she could think of since I never talk about anything I want right now. Doritos were definitely something I wanted right now, so it was a good pick.

Annie picked up some stuff for Valentines for Sophia on her way home from school. The cutest thing were the little pajamas she found for her.

Not my favorite "first"

A couple of days ago Sophia began to get morning congestion. She usually gets a lot of boogers, but they don't affect her breathing too much. But her new onslaught of snot has caused her to be really stuffed up and ornery at times.

Last night was probably the most difficult night for the three of us as, due to her extreme congestion, Sophia woke up at about 2:30 this morning. Annie tried to change her, feed her and get her back to sleep, which all helped calm her down well enough, but after all was said and done Sophie managed to stay awake until almost five o'clock.

Where Annie had to be up early to get to school, I stayed up with the baby to try and get her back to bed. It definitely wasn't happening for me as between the time she woke up and the time she dozed back off she just wanted to be up and around - that meant I had to be up and about as well.

I was able to suck out some of the boogers eventually and it cleared out her nose well enough that she was able to breathe relatively normal and finally get some more rest. Baby's first cold, which I think she may have a slight one, is definitely not a "first" I have been looking forward to.

Because I'm lazy

Since I (Chad, not Annie) was too lazy/"busy" to keep up on the blog for quite a while, I'm trying to decide whether I want to back track and date everything around when it happened, or just play a catch up thing like I did in the beginning. Right now I'm leaning toward the idea of manipulating hte post dates so they appear around the time the event actually happened.

Long story short, look back through every now and then to see if I posted something about Sophia and the family that actually happened way back when. These are just a couple of my favorite pictures from when Sophia was about a month old.

Growing Pains (Annie Writes)

Everyone knows that as you get older new challenges arise... Well, I'm older and shots still hurt! I'm not talking about my shots, I'm talking about Sophia's shots. We just went to her two month appointment the other day and she had to get all of the usual vaccinations. It hurt me so much to watch her happy little smile turn into a sad frown and then to a loud scream.

I guess that's why parents always say things like: I just want to know where you are so that I don't have to worry; It hurts me more than it hurts you; Don't say you hate me, you don't really mean it; and all of the other usual sayings.

I guess it's good that we have challenges because we wouldn't know the triumphs without them!
Kinda like "You can't know the good if you didn't have the bad!" (Or something like that).
Anyway, Sophia is growing so fast! She now weighs 12 lbs. 7 oz. and is 23 3/4 inches long!!! WOW! What a woman! She is doing so many new things too! She laughs and babbles all the time! She loves to stand up (with help of course) and she is starting to lift her head up so that she can sit up (she even starts lifting her head by herself and I have to hurry and grab her hands so that she can pull herself the rest of the way up).
The other night Sophia started walking! Okay, she had a little help... Weston, my brother, held her hands and she stood up and started walking! She had so little help that I was shocked and almost couldn't believe what was happening! She's so precious! I love her so much!

Until next time!!

Firsts: taking steps ... with help of course

Last Sunday, Superbowl Sunday, Weston and Erin were up at our apartment watching a movie with us and helping us eat the massive amount of cheeseball Annie made the day before. It was a nice evening, and since none of us were really into the Superbowl that much, it was nice to jsut watch a movie.

Weston was playing with Sophie, and she was being her usual cute self. She had been doing the thing where she will stand up if you help her stand up with your fingers. Then Weston decided to try and see what would happen if he leaned her forward to try and get her to take steps.

All of this was going on while none of the rest of us were really paying attention to them, and when I finally noticed it I bumped Annie's leg and pointed it out to her. Of course we were both floored to see our two-month-old girl actually taking guided steps.

Needless to say it has become our favorite brag and thing to show off to people the past little while.
